Most of the sites you can see in my portfolio offer all the functionality in Robertson's list of key requirements. None of them cost more than $1000 to originally design and implement, though. This was accomplished by relying on:

  • reasonably-priced hosting services.
  • open-source CMS solutions.

Of particular importance, is the use of the free Mambo CMS.

The goal of the Mambo project is to meet most of the requirements highlighted in Robertson's article. In the hands of an experienced custom developer, this makes Mambo a powerful platform for a wide variety of Internet applications that go far above and beyond the simple creation of content. Mambo is aimed at corporate web sites or sites for small to medium businesses, families or personal sites.

The best part of all this is that Mambo is available for free. I am not reselling this product. I am merely providing integration services to get your organization up and running with the solution.
